World champion Sebastien Ogier leads after eight stages at the end of the opening day of the Wales Rally GB.
The Frenchman is 37.3 seconds in front of Estonian Ott Tanak.
Ogier won five of the eight stages with Tanak claiming two. Belgian driver Thierry Neuville, battling for second place in the championship, was the other stage winner.
British hope Kris Meeke ended the day in fifth place, slipping back from third on the final stage at Dyfnant.
The Northern Irishman is aiming to be the first British driver since Richard Burns in 2000 to win the event.
Wales' Osian Pryce ended the day in 18th place overall and 6th in the supporting WRC2 class alongside Welsh co-driver Dale Furniss.
